Thanksgiving & December Picture Dump

Thanksgiving, some photos Wayne took and shared with me:

These shirts all pre-date Covid; I don't know if fashions changed or supply chain changed but I've been wearing this style of knitted polo for 20 years and since Covid I can't find them anymore...I already had retired a bunch from wearing to the office but these were still hanging on.

I did finally find some nice (but much plainer) polos so I bought a bunch of those and these are going in my rag pile.

Well that didn't turn out quite as anticipated...it was too close to the ends to screw in so I tried zip-tieing and it rotated backwards. I'll have to put a piece of wood or something to keep it straight.

Bunch of old change I had in the garage that was dirty as shit...cleaning in vinegar.

So improvising something to vacuum the cobwebs from the ceiling -- the plastic pipes couldn't support themselves but luckily I had a metal vacuum tube I could duct-tape to make things work.

Have been catching up on a lot of house work now that the garage is colder :D

Put new rechargeable batteries in the candle in the mantle tin lantern.

Thought I heard the mini-split running more than expected...it was one of those nights you think you loaded the woodstove to take off and you didn't. This isn't what you want to see in the morning!

Kind of hard to see, but they put up a Snoopy dog house to cover the town pump for Xmas!

12/3 -- finally got the hand truck and lift table out of the basement!

12/5 -- we had a 10% chance of less than 1" of snow total...we got 4" with 1/4" snow flakes at the height of it!

At Thanksgiving Pat mentioned pork stuffing which got me craving pork with stuffing. Just some ground sausage with Stovetop stuffing (but it was good!)

Finally retired the phone case that was falling apart, got just a plain black one -- and after years of having brightly colored ones I'm finding I'm losing my phone in the house often :D

Got a power strip for next to the recliner -- it clamps on quite securely.

And we had like 2-1/2" of rain on 12/11 (thank you climate change for our new feast-or-famine pattern), and apparently the Amazon guy had a hard time seeing the end of the driveway :/

Saturday 12/14 -- during the week got the Xmas lights up for the first time since the renovations during the week.

Dunno why, I was cold A.F. today -- took a kind of half nap around 2:30, was up by 4 and even though the main house was 71 I put on a light sweater until it got up to like 78.

Trying some sourdough -- I got these small little bread pans, to make smaller breads than I usually do. Dough is a bit wet, but I'm sure I'll be kneading it at least once more so we'll see how this rises first.

I need to buy a new dryer (control board died and it's not worth spending several hundred on one of the few "rebuilt" ones that pop up); but certainly when the woodstove is going the drying tree works very well. I'll probably just buy a nice matched set come spring or next summer-ish.

First Snow 2024

*sigh*...have a couple large Amazon deliveries due today and Friday which I ordered when there was no weather predicted. Even last night we were 10% chance of even breaking 1" of snow. But man, for a while we were getting 1/4" snowflakes!!! What was "I might work from home" day was a no doubt about it by sunrise.

So hi ho hi ho off to plow I go. Even worse, back blade because the driveway isn't frozen yet (driving a tractor backwards is a pain).

Clean off the tractor seat, sit down, have the rain from before the snow come squeezing out and wet my butt which I sat in for the next 90 minutes dealing with the snow. BTW...it's going to be 55 and raining on Monday. @#@$#!#!.

Oh well -- for lunch Pat at Thanksgiving happened to mention pork stuffing. Which I started craving and this was my half-ass version -- some ground mild Italian sausage and Stovetop Stuffing; it actually wasn't half bad.

Seriously, I'm in the 4.5" snow pocket and there was less snow in Pomfret and Putnam!?

Weird rain/snow line that was almost a straight N-S line.

On the plus size, the woodstove has the house at 74 :)

And more garage work...

Took Monday off to burn up some use 'em or lose 'em days...later realized I had a haircut appointment and I get my haircut near work :/

But got some Chinese for lunch on the way home, made a good highball, and went out and attacked the garage some more.

I moved a bunch of stuff from the house to the garage this weekend, and today got it up on shelfs. Sunday I was just tired (probably from staying up late following the latest posts about the Jennings Creek fire burning on the NY / NJ border)...I took a nap during the middle of the Patriots game.

I had cut some brush, this was stuck on the cable line. Before I got a round to figuring it out, a north wind blew it up near the house where it made me pretty nervous getting near the electric lines. But I remembered I had a long (manual) pole saw with a rope operated brush cutter and used that to clip away at this till it came down.

Time for new batteries for the Maglite I keep in the car...errr...well shoot...time for a new Maglite I guess?

Some of the stuff moved from the house -- forgot I even had a dedicated collection of car wash and waxing towels.

Bought some nice plastic labels for the bigger boxes.

Trying to figure out how to mount the white board so I can swing it out of the way. The gas brush cutter can move to the shed. I'm thinking a 4x4 somehow supported by the rack to the right.

Tools Wishlist

Just a place to keep some cool tool ideas I've seen, similar to the ones I do for the Jeep.

Probably should make a grand inventory some day, too :D

Keep plugging away...

I had Thursday off, but election night news junkie behavior caught up with and by 11:30am I was back "napping"; Mom called waking me up out of a very fun dream (I remember in the dream saying I shouldn't ge giggling this much from one beer just before I woke up), kind of forgot I had offered to take her shopping Thursday instead of Wednesday. Anyway didn't get much done.

Saturday I took a long morning drive to look at the area that burned in Monson last week; at first my brain was confused why they cleared so much area with leaf blowers -- they hadn't, I've never seen such a large area where the leaf litter had burned completely down to mineral soil so it was just dirt, ash, and some recent new leaf falls.

Normally our brush fires there is still a rough layer of moisture fuels left behind on top of the soil.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday were putz away in the garage days.

Made the "shower curtain" for the door opening so I can cut down on light breezes to help hold heat in...without having to deal with the heavy door all the time.

Uggh...Amazon tie wraps. I spent the extra money for the same name brand I already had, but they ship them coiled up instead of straight :( Hoping I can force them straight.

Did buy some cheap outdoor LED lights, but instead of bright white LED I put some red plastic

Garage is continuing to come along, emptied/organized a bunch of stuff, building up a pile of stuff from the house to bring out.

Yard Cock is landscape stapled down with some good rock weights to hold it down for the winter :) There was part of me that first thought "it looks like it needs cresh shelter(?) over it, then I thought it would need a spotlight, then I wondered if I set it up down by Route 6 what the hell people driving by would make of that rooster cresh :D
